As an Engagement Director at August, Mark Davis dives into opportunities that connect good people with great work.
With a passion for new projects and a genuine gift of the gab, Mark is a driving force behind killer strategy and client comms.
A people-person to his core, Mark partners with clients to deliver work based on conversations, collaboration and design thinking. He has applied his expertise in impactful work across the not-for-profit, arts, government and professional services sectors.
Having cut his teeth through early stints as a web designer, then developer, Mark draws on over a decade in marketing—and is deeply rooted in digital. A co-founder of Australian digital agency Efront, Mark took the role of Managing Director at WPP AUNZ’s Cornwell before joining August’s engagement team.
His knack for finding opportunities has seen him scope, deliver and manage digital projects for some of Australia’s largest retailers, banks, architects and NFP’s. Notable projects include the ‘Magic Beer Labeller’ for Carlton United Breweries, and NAB’s award-winning Breakup campaign. When he isn’t planning his next proposal, Mark connects people and advocates good design via his role as Vice President at Open House Melbourne.
We sat down with Mark to chat about his online reading habits, epic motorbike riding playlist, and whether he can find his way around the kitchen.
What’s one website you can’t go a day without checking?
I dig the editorial nature of The Outline, I also think it’s hugely important in the current socio-political climate.
If there was one musician’s concert (past or present) that you could attend, who would it be?
I love a sticky carpet. Be hard to pass up Nirvana, the original Alice in Chains line up, Hendrix, Zeppelin (with John Bonham), Jeff Buckley, Joplin, Johnny Cash….
What’s one of your favourite things about Melbourne?
The quality of food, drinks and service here is incredible. Service can’t be underestimated, there are amazing career hospitality people who ensure an outstanding experience.
Do you cook? If so, what’s your specialty?
My wife is a (seriously) phenomenal cook, who also likes to sleep, so breakfast is my deal. I do eggs every way and have a stack of variations of Nutella for the three kids.
What’s on your music playlist right now?
Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN, I’m going to ruin it, I just can’t stop playing it. Otherwise I’m a pretty typical Gen X bogan. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains et al are all on permanent rotation.
What is one skill in the world of digital you hope to improve this year?
I’m working on my facilitation skills at the moment.
